As a coach, you're never where you want to be, but we are way ahead of where we were at this time last year. We have several veterans in key positions, and for some of them, this is their second or third go-round with camp. They know what to expect and they've reacted accordingly. |
He has torn ligaments in there. At receiver, I feel like we're going to lose a lot of experience, but I really believe we have the talent there. We just have to grow up faster. |
He is still day-to-day. We're really taking it slow with him. He's a fifth-year senior. We're treating him like a veteran. He knows what he can do and what he can't do. He's going to play (in the season opener Sept. 4). |
He left. He quit because he felt he was playing for everybody else. His heart wasn't in it. That's sad because we felt he had a great future here. |
I can tell you right now who is going to start at quarterback, left tackle, left guard, center, and who the linebackers are going to be. Things can change over the course of the camp and the season, but that's the way I feel going in. |
I can't say enough about the job the Tulane administration has done to get us where we are right now. Our No. 1 priority was to get everyone enrolled in school, and while it's not ideal to be spread out the way we are, we are ready to get back to normal and return to every-day life the best we can. |
I just hope they (the Mustangs) are still sympathetic to us. I hope they continue to help us out and turn it over a lot and give us a chance to win. |
I still think our guys don't know how bad it is. From what I've heard, unless you're on the ground in New Orleans, you can't comprehend what has happened there. |
I think the biggest challenge we had this year was getting players to come down and take a look. We had the most amount of parents we ever had come with them, and that was very encouraging. We worked very hard to get that done. |
I told the team last night this isn't about winning or losing. At the end of the year, our message has to be that we persevered. If we go 11-0 ... if we go 0-11 ... they're not going to know our record. They're going to know we persevered. For the millions of people affected in our environment — the ones who survived — it's going to give them some hope. Because right now there is no hope. |
In the worst natural disaster in the history of the United States, you've got to stoop pretty low to do that. You're lower than dirt. I'm not going to tolerate that. There's people in our business that don't belong in our business. |
It goes much deeper than that. |
It's a tribute to all the parents. The kids also remained strong to the program. We never lied to them. Facts are facts. We were honest about our situation. |
It's all we have left. We've lost our homes and our city. Now all we have left is our families and football. In that respect, we have all that we need. |
