(Producer) Michael Bay has done something that is rarely if ever done and that is remake a classic and turn the remake into a classic. We have a shot to get into the $80 millions. It cost $9.5 million to make. I imagine this will be the (year's) most profitable movie vis-a-vis what it cost to make. |
The budget on the film was $9.5 million and we grossed the budget the first night. This is the first Platinum Dunes (film) Michael Bay has done (in his production deal at New Line) and he delivered in spectacular fashion. And the marketing was terrific. |
This 'Final Destination 3' opening can be attributed to a number of factors including the franchise's loyal audience; the success of the previous films on DVD and video; the strong appeal of the 'cheating death' concept that is at the core of the franchise; and the enduring appeal of horror movies. |
We knew it was going to have legs, but we never expected anything this strong. Even though it's R-rated, it's playing almost like a family film. Almost every demographic except kids is coming out and having a good time. |
We've been trying to make this movie since 1994 and the core (audience) has been waiting for it. The picture got sold as more of an event happening than a normal horror movie. It looked like a heavyweight fight. The date was great because we were away from everything that could have hurt us. |
