I thought we did a pretty good job against Westland. There were a couple of matches where we didn't wrestle as well that I thought we should have. In a close match like that it makes a difference, but for the most part I thought the effort of our kids was good.

Hopefully, our guys are looking forward to it. Our philosophy is to set our goals high and try to (advance to state). This is what starts it all off. This will be a good test for us because we're in a tough sectional.

Best-case scenario, we're hoping to get six kids through.

Caleb has the talent and could get out with a great tournament. He just has to believe in himself and think he can win the big matches.

I think he can win those matches, but if he has a bad day may not make it out. However it shakes out, one of the best 103-pounders will be sitting at home for state.

It's predetermined where everyone is going based the district you're coming out of. So I guess you could say there are some Las Vegas odds involved.

We've been working on being positive and after he lost to Rigel, he realized it was close enough that he could beat him.

For him to get on the podium is really significant. But they all have to realize there are no givens. You still have to keep working. You can't assume just because you do it as a sophomore, you'll also get up there the following year.

It is a priority, but we have to take the circumstances into consideration and set goals that are realistic. It's like saying I'm going to run the 100-yard dash in five seconds -- it's not going to happen. If we had the numbers, it would be a goal of ours.

Individually, some didn't perform as well as we wanted, but we met our team goals. They were just attained by different personnel.

I think there's a misconception that kids cut too much weight, and hopefully this will put that in check. I don't think it happens as much now as in the olden days.

It's a great thing to have good wrestlers that don't have grade problems because that's one less hassle you have to deal with as a coach. Kids with bad grades are a hassle for a coach if you're trying to do your job correctly because you've got to stay on top of that along with everything else you're trying to do.
