Before when he'd had swelling in there, it would go down when you gave him rest and time off of it. But the swelling hadn't left.

I think he's done an excellent job. He's just a great example of a young player that works hard, has improved and the production has showed up on the field.

I think his quickness and speed. He's got a knack for rushing the passer.

I think that a big part of this game is how you deal with distractions. In the last month, there has been a lot of that sentiment, but when you are a coach or a player you never think of those things.

You don't want to have years like this. I told the guys, you have to learn from this.

You have to be careful and stay with your step-by-step program. Then, you have to have the courage to stick with it and not sacrifice the future for the quick fix.

I understand the job as the head football coach is to win games. But when you put your heart and soul into something and it doesn't work the way you want it or anticipate it to, it's disappointing.

I'm sure that our offense is not real confident coming out of this game, but they'll recover. David was under duress a lot and I don't think our offensive performance was really what we were looking for out of our total offensive team.

The thing I was the most disappointed in (Sunday) was basically the fundamentals of our team. Our tackling, our blocking, there were far too many penalties … right now, it's a gut check and a character check for our team.

I think what it comes down to, no matter what defense you're in, it's a matter of players going out and making plays. I think many times (the scheme) is overrated.

The challenge this week is that we're playing against the No. 1 defense from last season. When the players come back to work Wednesday, they'll be zeroing in on the Steelers. We'll be focused on what we need to do to be more efficient.

From that point on, we really didn't get a lot done. We're going to have to take a good look at it as we go through the preseason process.
