Well, the good news is that we started the Chase out better than we did last year, ... The bad news is that we battled the car all day long. We just couldn't get the handling right. We really wanted to come out of here with a top five or a top ten, but at least we didn't come out with a DNF.

If you're not careful, this thing can get to you, trying to get in the top 10 for the chase.

You've got to go out every lap and get all you can. There's no laying back, no being cautious, no being safe. You've got to run hard every week. If you're going to win the championship, you've got to run up front.

[Last week: Mayfield finished seventh at Dover.] We're in position, ... We had a good top-10 run. It was a strong run all day.

It's a great place, a great area to race in, all that, ... It just hadn't been that good for us as a race team. We just haven't had the finishes we feel like we needed there.

If everything would have played out right, we would have had a top-five finish or maybe even a win the way it was looking toward the end of the race, ... It easily could have been a great day for us, but we're going to take 16th and not look back.

We've got to step it up a little bit and we all know that. We're trying hard to do that. It's not a one person deal -- the whole team has got to step up and do more than we ever have and dig deeper than we've ever dug.

But the other guys are going to have to have trouble, too. That's something you haven't seen yet -- but it's coming.

If somebody gets hurt, then whoever made the call to change the race track needs to feel a little bit responsible.
