I've never been involved in something like that. |
I've said all along that Marcus is the best passer I've ever coached. I think he took affront to that, because he had back-to-back 20-point games (in the tournament). There aren't many better point guards in the country. |
I've said all year: We play with one point guard (Marcus Williams). When we do not expose our weaknesses, which Washington did, we are terrific. But when you expose some of our weaknesses, we have the ability to turn the ball over. |
I've said Marcus, in my opinion, is the best passer that I've ever coached. I think he took affront to that. Now he's scoring. There aren't many better point guards in the country than him. |
I've talked to the kids about the difficult situation they've given me, in the sense I think all of our guys can play. |
I've watched him grow as a person, but he's still been able to maintain his wit, his optimism and that ever-ready smile. A lot of kids would have spit the bit at different times if they weren't starting. All he wants to really do is play and win and that's exactly what he's done. He's as comfortable in his skin as any kid I've ever had. I'm telling you right now ? and hopefully it will be five weeks, six weeks before it's the end of his career ? I will miss him for his personality, along with obviously his basketball game. He's a terrific kid. |
If he plays well, then we've got a chance to win it. If Marcus were to sprain an ankle in the first 10 minutes against Albany, then we'll struggle but we would probably win. After that, it's 50-50 if we'll win a game or not. |
If he's not one of the best two or three kids in the country, then I guess I've lost my judgment about how good a guy can be. |
If I haven?t changed, then I know I wouldn?t be sitting here today, ... You don?t coach college basketball in the 70s, 80s, 90s, and now the 2000s, unless you make changes. The outside wrapper is probably a little different, but the values are the same. |
If we keep winning 30 games a year, I think we'll be in pretty good shape and we'll win our championships again. |
If we're No. 1 in April, it would be great. Right now we'd like to be No. 1 in the Big East, which is going to be tough to do. ... We've got some bears coming up. We've got all kinds of trials and tribulations. |
If we're not playing defense and I call time out, I can tell you right now it's going to be X-rated. I'll go after some people or make some changes. It's not like this is the middle of the season and we can get it done next time. We're all here and it's a perilous journey. It's a wonderful journey, but the band plays on if you lose. |
If you ask me how I got here and why I coach, ... there's your answer. |
If, in fact, you felt it was a mistake of malice, a mistake of violence, a mistake repeated, those are all factors. |
In all my years of coaching, I can't remember a player who came as far as he did at that point of his career. He should be held up as an example. |
