I felt the Episcopal Church was opening a door. It was an opportunity to find a spiritual home where I could feel safe as an openly gay man.
It's like being part of an extended family. My own personal relationship with God and Christ has improved. Now that I'm a member of the church, (my faith) has taken on shape. I can phrase it in words and think of it in concrete terms. Weekly worship reinforces that.
We're almost conditioned as gay people that the church means the Christian Right and the anti-gay sentiment. We don't even consider church as a possibility for us.
