 A couple of chains have said they won't do day-and-date initially. I think when they see the numbers and how the films perform, it will bear out our position on them.

 Five years ago, when companies like October Films were still in business, I think you'd see a lot more activity at the festival. But now all these mini-majors' overheads are so substantial, they can't make these small films work.

 I know that people think we've opened Pandora's box. But we're just giving a platform to movies that probably wouldn't have gotten shown by most theater chains, anyway.

 I think that there are some people out there who kind of have their head in the sand. I think that the challenge to the exhibitor is how to have a better theatrical experience, to compete with the home experience.

 In an era where opening weekend grosses determine the overall success of a film, it is important that we find a way to ensure that the important independent films of our time have the support to reach a national audience.

 It really boiled down to two companies that saw an opportunity and (a way) we could both leverage assets.

 So much great film has fallen by the wayside. The studios are collapsing the window between the theatrical release and the DVD. We're taking that one step further.

 The theatrical distribution business for smaller, specialized films has become more challenging, and we saw this as an opportunity to create a national art house to be available to everybody from the outset.

 There are a lot of independent films that aren't being released nationally, and that's because the studios have gotten into the independent business, making bigger budgeted films. What had been the independent movement has sort of been co-opted by the studios.

 These aren't the films that the studio are looking at.

 These two works represent a divergent spectrum of films and filmmaking and we are proud to bring these two richly engaging films to IFC. Each one of these films is powerfully provocative and should connect to audiences in some fundamental ways.

 This agreement isn't about simply collapsing distribution windows. IFC in Theaters is enabling independent filmmakers to reach a wider audience in a much more economical manner. The local cinema will always be the first home for film to many film lovers ... Now IFC and Comcast will provide independent films with a unique opportunity to extend and expand beyond traditional distribution means.

 We have the utmost respect for Landmark. They are our partners in many venues and we hope to resolve this amicably.

 We immediately saw that the economics with digital video were dramatically different (from 35-mm film). The all-in production costs could be a couple of hundred thousand dollars.... The filmmakers were able to make the pet projects they wanted to do but no one would fund.

 When the opportunity came along to partner with Bob and Harvey on 'Transamerica' we jumped at the chance, ... Having produced ' Boys Don't Cry ' and witnessing Hillary Swank 's transformation, we were immediately struck by Felicity Huffman's jaw-dropping performance here. She is nothing short of fantastic.
