That Stern's listeners seem to have disappeared is reflective of the dirty secret that radio ratings are extremely unreliable, inaccurate (and) misleading. People listen to more than one show and one station. Thus, Stern's listeners are all over the place — as they have always been.

There's only one thing that rules whether Howard Stern stays or leaves Infinity and that's money. If Howard Stern brings in more money than it costs to have him, he stays. If it costs more money to have Howard Stern than he brings in, he leaves.

This is not that unusual for there to be fluctuations from one year to another, especially the year after elections. Political talk radio is dependent on the excitement of the political scene.
