For a solid two and probably 2 1/2 quarters I thought we played pretty solid basketball. I just wish that in some of these games- and tonight's a perfect example-that we wouldn't let things get so far away from us in the end. This was a much closer and way more competitive game than that final score shows. |
Getting down early like that. And this late in the year, it would have been pretty easy to cave in a little bit. To our kids credit, they didn't do that. It's good to get that first conference win. |
Going into the fourth quarter, I just wanted to keep up the intensity and try to keep Brewster from going on another run. |
I do see improvement. In my eyes, at times, we seem to be getting better. I just wish we could put together four solid quarters. |
I was pretty proud with that effort at the foul line and how we took better care of the basketball down the stretch. Our decision making was much improved, too. |
Looking back over my 30-year career I have to go back to the 1987 regional finals against Cairo to find as big a comeback. We were 15 down at halftime against the fourth-rated team in the state and beat them by two. I have been there before, but this is as big as any I've been involved in. |
One thing I do know. Is that what's happened since November really doesn't mean a whole lot now. Everybody's 0-0 and capable of putting a couple of good games together and contending for the regional championship. |
Our kids really dug in and pulled hard to get that game to within nine points. Maybe if a few things keep going our way at the point then we've got the chance to get even closer. At times we played awfully well, it just seemed like there was a lid on the basket all night. We had plenty of good looks at the basket. |
