That's imposing a ceiling of sorts on any rally. But the good news is that at the end of next week, tax-loss related selling may abate dramatically.

The negative sentiment we are seeing is a terrific Wall Street indicator,

A demon in the market decided to punish us on the last session of the year.

It's equally distributed in Nasdaq. I haven't seen any particular catalysts. The front-line companies like Cisco, Intel, Microsoft, Oracle are still suffering from tax selling.

I do think we're searching for a bottom on the Nasdaq and the action looks good so far. I see a lot of stocks doing well and people are going bottom fishing. Interest rates matter and clearly the Federal Reserve needs to focus on the Nasdaq.

Investors are starting to exercise one of the golden rules of investing, ... And that's buying when the news is the bleakest.

It is another piece of good news in that it leaves the Fed in an unfettered position to exercise more discretion in monetary easing. Because the economy has displayed such weakness and inflation has been non-existent with the exception of energy-related prices, the short-term inflation number may be less relevant.

This has probably been the most-telegraphed rate cut of all time. The market had already anticipated this. Now they are asking: How much more can I get?

I think they're waiting for Cisco, but they're also injecting their own level of certainty about the third quarter as being the turning point for the front end of technology stocks,

It's funny to watch the evolution of an index that was relatively unknown for its first 15 years. If you really want to expose your portfolio to leading-edge technology companies, the Nasdaq has the bulk of those stocks.

I do think it is a reflection of our society. Fast, short-term and speculative in nature.

This is the greatest time to buy these stocks: when nobody wants them.

Right now I think you're in the indiscriminate phase of selling. There's more of (a feeling of) anticipation and paranoia about the possibility that some of the Dow stocks could disappoint even further.

It's a conviction on the part of some that a lot of the stocks have reached such a downside level that they are discounting the worst of all scenarios. The enthusiasm is clearly restrained because the selling and anxiety continues so we've got a little short covering and selective buying.

The fundamental environment, because we still have a whole host of earnings reports to come out, could work to slow the rally. But much of the pain and punishment has already been absorbed prior to the end of the quarter.
