Child health has improved across the United States and in some Latin America countries due in large part to improved health care. However, new life-saving technologies have yet to arrive in many areas. We hope this new partnership will enable the development community to transfer desperately needed medical knowledge from the United States to medical facilities in urban and rural areas throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. |
The economic performance of Latin America in the last decades has been disappointing, with the region lagging behind the dynamic Asian economies. Among other things , poverty itself is hampering the regions growth and unless constraints affecting the poor are addressed, strong growth will remain elusive. |
You cannot have one or two years of growth and expect people to suddenly feel better. In unequal countries, you need more growth to reduce poverty than in less unequal countries. You need at least 5 percent year after year. |
