There is huge irony here. Six Democrats in Congress were eliminated, but the seventh victim may turnout to be the author of the plan.

DeLay is benefited by a short campaign season because his challengers are unknown.

It's a general indication that Tom DeLay has had a horrible year since he got elected to his 11th term. It's just been one damn thing after another.

I think Tom Campbell has the potential to develop into a serious candidate and a threat to the incumbent. He comes across as a real straight-arrow Boy Scout type, which plays well against an embattled candidate.

He's rallied the conservative base behind him, but he’s at risk, ... The district is a little less friendly. This time around he’ll have a much better opponent than in 2004.

Clearly in 2004 he was an underperformer. He's had some further erosion.

It would be huge news if he didn't support Perry. It's what you expected, and it will be marginally helpful for Perry. But it's only news if the president is breaking with someone from his own party.

At the end of the day, both these candidates are going to have plenty of money. It's going to be the least of their worries.

That special election showed there's some real disenchantment with conservatives in general and in a district that was supposed to be safely Republican.

Occasionally, someone has run against DeLay. But I don't recall any attention being paid, and I don't think the congressman took the challenge seriously. This is the first primary where he has had to extend himself.

DeLay is in trouble. The primary is no sure thing and the general election is even more dangerous.

Looking inside the skimpy primary tea leaves for little tidbits, the one interesting and dangerous thing for Tom DeLay that I see is that he ran poorly in his home county. He took under 56% of the primary vote among local voters who presumably know him best, compared to almost 70% elsewhere in the district...not a good sign for the coming war with the Democratic challenger.

We have done everything possible to persuade the player to stay but there is little point in keeping a player when he is so determined to leave. We also have to take account of the effect on all the other players at the club who are committed to us and what we are trying to achieve here.

As a club, our position remains the same as ever - we do not want him to go, but if it is offered to him, and he wants to take it, we will not stand in his way.

While we are not unique in this respect, we are still concerned that the growth of earlier years has not been maintained.
