As we worked through the entire process, we tried to do all we could to accommodate the community. This is indeed another way to accommodate the community. This could have been much more litigious. We decided not to go this route. ... We definitely don't want to be in a situation where we're at odds with what elected bodies asked of us ... what the community asked of us. |
Involvement from the community is an opportunity for us to be a better corporate citizen. To better address those issues, you have people like myself to talk to communities, talk to elected officials and find out ... the issues and try to solve them. |
No one is forcing people into this store. It's what is inside the building and what we do here that drives people to our store. |

Their position is not a Wal-Mart when, it's a Wal-Mart never. We're trying to be responsive to their issues, but they will always have a problem with the location. |
We are evaluating the community and possible options we may have to further invest in Sturgeon Bay, but at this point we have no immediate plans. I'd like to reiterate we are proud of the store we have there. We like serving our customers in that area. But some of the discussions (by anti-Wal-Mart protesters) are premature. |

We empower our associates to determine the best ways for our stores, SAM's Clubs and distribution centers to be involved locally. |
What I can do is talk with the store manager about some of these things. That store manager will live in the community. It is easier for me to give you a commitment from a local store. |
