Everybody seems to be progressing right where they need to be. It's been a tremendous help, because I've been able to get advance knowledge of knowing personalities and how to gauge their needs. This just gives us a head start so that it doesn't have to happen in Spring Training. |
He came in last year and was a big part of the bullpen. He was someone we were counting on, but it didn't turn out that way so we'll find another route. |
He had a big smile on his face. For me, that was the greatest indicator. |
He seems to be day to day. We're not putting a date on anything. |
He's just struggling to make some pitches on a consistent basis. I obviously don't foresee that continuing, based on the track record he's had. This is just one of those occasions ... unfortunately that it happens back-to-back and this early in the season. |
I don't feel I have warranted anything to be called Camp Roger. It's been called Camp Leo, and rightfully so. |
I feel pressure every day I come to the ballpark. Obviously, it's a different scale now. |
I wouldn't take back anything that I have done because it's who I am. I like to make people laugh. But I'm not a player anymore. I'm a coach, and it's a different job. I want to do my job, and that's to get 11 or 12 pitchers ready to pitch a game. |
I've experienced every aspect of pitching. I know the reality of what these guys are going through. You can be going good, and the game is going to humble you. But the challenge is how to get through the difficult times. |
My job is to get pitchers better. Walking into the Atlanta Braves [organization], you know the history and the success the staffs have had here. It's a task I'm looking forward to the challenge of. |
Obviously I don't see that continuing with the track record he has. It's just one of those rare occasions, and it's happened back to back. |
Obviously the success Leo had here was pretty much second to none. Hopefully we will continue that success. |
Obviously you'd like to have everybody throwing up zeroes all the time. But that can't happen. Pitchers can go into slumps just like hitters. For whatever reason, sometimes they do it collectively. |
Obviously, this is exciting. It's special. No, make that real special, given the history of this organization with its pitching and all the winning. There are a lot of good pitchers here. And how many consecutive division titles have they won? Fourteen. |
The excitement hasn't worn off. Now, the preparation starts to come to fruition. It's like with a new baby ? that first day is an ecstatic high. Now, it's time to go to work. |
