 It's one of those nights you had to battle to stay in the game and I really didn't have anything to go with. Later in the game in the sixth, seventh inning, I felt better than the first four.

 It's probably the worst game I ever threw, that I could remember. It was a bad game all the way around - walking people, not throwing the ball where I wanted to, getting behind guys - it was one of those days. I was like a high school kid out there.

 Just look at the track record and you'd understand why. Go back three years or go back the first year and see where I've placed against the other pitchers on the team.

 Last year is history; this is a completely different situation. We just need one win, and we proved we could win [at Busch Stadium] already in this series. We just need to buckle down, play hard and get it done.

 My back foot slipped off the back of the rubber, and once my feet gave way, I started to throw the pitch anyway, and my mind said, change real quick, don't lob one up there and let the guy hit it out, ... I went ahead and took that one on the chin.

 My legs got a little tired when I got around 90 pitches, but I was hoping if I could just keep it 3-2 after the second home run and get through the inning, maybe the bullpen could come in and pick up the last four.

 My stuff's a little better than it was last year. Last year I was focused on getting another pitch going, a split, and I worked on that more than I worked on my basic stuff, so I kind of lost my feel for it the first two games of the season.

 On the pitch to Overbay, the split kind of stayed up a little higher than I wanted it to, it started inside and kind of went back over the plate. I wanted it to start out over the middle and kind of go inside. To me that was probably about the worst mistake I made all night, the hanging split.

 Once we got the early lead, I knew I could go right at them.

 People don't see what we see. His leadership is something you can't replace. It's like a brother leaving a team.

 Roger looked good, especially not pitching in two weeks (because of a strained left hamstring),

 Since you're from a small place, no one really cares where you're from, ... So it kind of drives you a little.

 That one was bittersweet, for sure.
