He showed he can pitch a little bit. We're willing to give it a shot. He attacked hitters. He didn't show me he was afraid.

He's the only one who volunteered. I'm not looking for quality, I'm looking for quantity at that point.

It was a good ball game. We were facing some pretty good pitching. Schilling has his good stuff again tonight.

I thought Chen did a great job. His pitch count got a little high. It got us into our pen a little sooner then we wanted to.

What these guys have to realize is I am not looking for a guy to step in there and have three hits. You just want to see a guy go in and have some good at-bats. If he lines out three times and he's 0-for-4, that's a good sign. But you can't go out and strike out three times. I still like him. I have high hopes for him.

I thought the big step Erik took was the one inning when he was borderline, his pitch count was up and he battled to get out of it. I thought that was a big step for him to show that he can carry it into late in the game.

A big difference, to finish off with a win like that. There was more emotion in the dugout the last two innings than I've seen the entire game.

I think his control leaves him a little bit and fortunately we've been patient enough to let him get into a little trouble. There are times when a guy's struggling a little bit and you go ahead and get him out of a jam by swinging at a bad pitch. Two times now, our guys have let him work and made him come to them and they've gotten the big hit when we need it.

That particular day, he tried to do so well that he was overthrowing. He has a tremendous desire to do well.

He swung the bat, he really did. It's too bad it was wasted.

I like some of the stuff he has. He's got a good arm and a good breaking ball, I think he's going to be OK in the future.

He showed signs of being outstanding and then turn around and couldn't find the plate. 10 strikeouts, nine walks, pretty amazing.

That was just a great game. The guys showed no quitting whatsoever and battled back. We had some guys come up with some big hits for us.

He mixed his pitches really well and used his fastball tremendously well. He's smart, he knows what to do and doesn't give in. I think that's going to be a big help to him all year long.

Bedard was outstanding tonight from start to finish. He owned the outer half of the plate and he was throwing about as hard as I have ever seen him.
