You're not going to win close games if you can't go to the line and knock down free throws. To me, that was one of the big differences in the game.

We weren't sloppy. We played well down the stretch. We needed a stop or two that we didn't get. I thought we gave a good effort. Basically, the statistics were the same except for one.

I think we need to get the ball to Brooke and (leading scorer) Candice (Wiggins) more. And then we need to put other people in situations that are more successful for them.

I think it's hard to explain to our players the emotion that Arizona had today. It's impossible to understand their mental place, what they've gone through, the things they've dealt with. We weathered that storm today, but I'm disappointed with the way we came out and I think we are fortunate to win.

I would think both teams have really improved a lot and this is going to be a good measure to see how much we've improved. I think there's a natural tendency, when you lose to someone, that it would be extra motivation not to let that happen again.

We are a different team with Kristen and with a point guard playing up to speed. Hopefully, that will help us.

We've gone 18-0 in the Pac-10 before and been unable to play in close games. It's not all about the record. You don't go into any game wanting to lose. And we are disappointed, but improving is our focus.

For me, last night was as good as I think we can be. That's what I want us to be.

I knew we could play better. Against Arizona, we weren't focused. There were some parts of that game that I think I carried around with me all week and into practice. I thought we worked really hard Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, getting ready for Washington.

Candice hit some big shots in the second half and we got it going. We rushed a little bit in the first half but we settled down and that gave us some good momentum into the tournament.

I love [having] it in San Jose. But [rotating] it would be more fair to other teams and expose the tournament to other areas.

We have shot the ball very well, and I think we have (center) Brooke Smith to thank for that because she passes the ball so well. But, obviously, you have to be able to knock the shots down.

We really wanted to play a lot of people. We needed different contributions. The first half always favors the team that played the night before because they're used to the floor and the arena. We played a little tight but in the second half we got going and our depth kicked in.

In the first half, we didn't shoot well and I thought we played tight. We wanted to go inside to Brooke (Smith) and (Kristen) Newlin and they delivered.

It is really important to us to play a lot of people. Some people didn't have the stroke they usually have, so we needed different people contributing.
