He really worked hard. He's very well prepared coming into this camp. He's not playing catch-up. He's strong. It's very obvious he worked hard this winter. He just came into camp ready to go. |
He said about the fourth inning, all the sudden it clicked with his fastball command. I'll bet having the run support had something to do with that because he had some room for error. He could go out and be aggressive. |
He said he wanted to remedy that and he'd welcome conversation, which I appreciate. Maybe having a couple of problems leads to better communication. |
He said he was climbing the walls, said he feels better. It sounds like he's pretty hopeful about tonight. I hope he's correct. If not, it sounds like he's not far off. Losing Johnny for the short term hurts. Losing him for the long term hurts more. |
He sat down [Saturday] with Dr. [Thomas] Gill, medical personnel and Theo. A decision will be made pretty soon, on what's going to happen. He's got some issues this week. His wife's having a baby. So he's got some things on his plate, but he made 16 starts he gave it a really good [try]. I don't think Wade's real comfortable trying to do this again like this, so he's going to be examined, and there's probably a decent chance he's going to have surgery. So that's kind of where we're at. |
He spent a lot of time working in the outfield. I think that's probably overlooked. |
He spent all week working and working, and he was very good. We weren't going to let a couple of innings sway our judgment. Red Sox Nation might have been in a little bit of an uproar, but he's too conscientious, and he's too good defensively. |
He told me, 'I don't have trouble throwing strikes.' I thought he was throwing the ball great this spring. I really don't think it puts him behind, besides the fact that we can't use him. I think he's going to help us. I think he'll be fine. |
He tolerated it pretty well. We might be reaching a little, but the hope is he might be available the end of the week. |
He took a good swing tonight and he has that ability. |
He tracked that ball pretty well. I didn't think he was going to get there. |
He wanted to go and have a little catch and get the blood flowing. |
He wanted to let me know how he felt about some of the things that have happened and preventing them from happening. Anytime he wants to talk with me, I'm glad because I don't want to be on the receiving end every time one of our guys does something. |
He was a little more patient. He swung at some pitches in the strike zone. He?s a strong young man. The ball comes off his bat really well. |
He was a lot about what?s good about baseball. He had that infectious enthusiasm. |
