He came, got outs and gave us a chance to win. Then he went back out and ended up throwing 30, 31 pitches, and located pretty well. He had some good changeups. It's a positive step in the right direction.

I hope that the impressiveness is over. I hope he's had a great year and he goes 0-for-12, and I'm talking about, 'God, what a great year he had and then he struggled the last three games.' He's had an awesome year. I don't think that's a surprise. Great players have great years. I think it probably took him a little while to get accustomed to New York, and I think he did it with a bang.

I hope it's pitching versus pitching. We really love our lineup. Over 162 games, our lineup has been pretty special. But to win in the playoffs, we're going to need pitching. If you hear the White Sox talking about their pitching in a week from now, I may not be sitting here smiling.

This time last year we hadn't won anything, so basically we're in the same position. We sold out every game. Everywhere we went was craziness. It feels as if we played 162 playoff games.

They pitched, hit and ran the bases better than us. They outplayed us. That's why they won.

Alex is a ballplayer. He knows how to play. He makes all the plays, he has good range, he has nice carry on his arm. He never is out of position. He just helps you win games. It may not be flashy, but he knows how to play. If you need a bunt, he can bunt. He can hit and run. He's just a good ballplayer.

Everyone is talking about Lowell and he had a down year. If he just has an average year, he's going to drive in 85 or 90 runs. That's going to help us a lot. That's a lot of RBIs.

From what I understand, he's doing terrific.

I know he'll be excited. The honor would probably mean more to him maybe than some other people.
