I didn't think there would be any problems. |
I do believe in him, probably more than most people. But at the same time you kind of want to know what a guy's going to do. That level of consistency is huge in our game. That's part of the reason we pitched him yesterday, so we can try to allow him to do that. |
I do feel bad. I think it could have meant a lot to him. He's very team-oriented. I know he's very proud. |
I don?t think Boston will intimidate him. He?s going to get someone thrown out at some point, and I think he?s able to handle that. |
I don?t think I ever remotely (doubted). |
I don?t think that helped anything. We kind of threw up a red flag. It was already to the point in the game where we were going to go to the bullpen, anyway. He said it was burning. I don?t think he re-injured it. He had a lot of pitches, some wear and tear in the game. |
I don't doubt he'll miss a few games, ... but that's a heck of a lot better than the rest of the year. |
I don't doubt that this is going to be a couple of days. But that's a hell of a lot better than the rest of the season. |
I don't ever want to shortchange anybody in this organization because of my lack of energy. I need to work a little bit at that. |
I don't know about unique; I think he's good. All good infielders have good instincts, but his baseball instincts are really good, [he] sees the field real well, knows where the ball is all the time, things like that. Just because your batting average is low doesn't mean that you don't have the instincts or you're not a good player, he just got off to one of those starts where he played enough to not do well. We've all been through it. For whatever reason, he just had a tough time getting untracked. |
I don't know how they didn't see him. Because I felt him. |
I don't know if I've seen that in a while, giving up a run every inning. At least we were consistent. |
I don't know that I can give you an answer on that. I certainly always have the numbers available. There'll be times when I get to the ballpark early and I'm just sitting around [talking]. I'll look at some video, see how guys look. Some of it is just talking to them. Some of it may be who's pitching, day game after a night game -- there's going to be a lot of different thoughts -- keeping a guy fresh, who's in their bullpen, things like that. |
I don't know that there's really a threshold. I think around the 75-pitch mark. But it would be stupid to say 'Well, you're at 75 pitches. You're done,' if it's in the middle of a hitter and he's throwing well. You just have to use common sense. It's more how hard he has to work in an inning. |
I don't know what he's doing, but you can be in great shape -- which I bet he is -- but you can't simulate a day on the field. |
