I think it stunned us all. It's over. You are waiting to see where Manny hits it and what they can do with it, if they can do anything with it. |
I think it's an easy explanation. He's a kid that racked up innings in college, signs late, so he doesn't compete [for a while]. Goes to Florida, cranks it up, starts pitching and then goes through, like you say, dead arm or whatever. Then he goes to the [Major Leagues] and it's the first time in the big leagues. ... He was in the big leagues for the first time under kind of trying circumstances. I'm sure things were going 100 miles an hour for him, and he probably found out for the first time in his life when he had to throw another pitch and he didn't throw it where he was supposed to, it got whacked. |
I think it's kind of silly to put an artificial date on (when he'll close again). (He'll do it) when he's to the point where he can help us. When we can say that, it will be good for our ballclub. |
I think it's not just in our best interest, but in our ballclub's best interest, that he sit, clear his head, take a few deep breaths. |
I think it's rare where any team goes through a stretch where you have everyone available, everybody's working. And I think he probably fills that role for us, because he can hit anywhere. |
I think so and I think, not just with Manny, but with everybody, it needs to be. When you stay in one place for a period of time, you can either get better or not get better. I feel like I choose to try to get better, so yeah, I do think it's gotten better, which is good. Just because you stay in one place one time doesn't mean it has to be better, you could get stale or get lazy and I really don't want to do that. |
I think that's good. With the amount of games we have left, it's more important to win. But if the people nearest to us lose, that doesn't hurt our cause. |
I think the best way to put it, I'm glad he's in our uniform. |
I think the guys we have -- Coco, Beckett, people like that -- being in that market, I think, will push them and kind of spur them on to maybe be better than they've been already. |
I think the last week or so he's been fighting it a little bit. He actually came and talked to me. We talked a little bit about maybe moving him down in the order. I just don't think that's necessary. A lot of times you get one pitch or swing and it clicks and then you get hot. |
I think the prudent thing was not to play him [Thursday]. I think he could. I think the right thing to do is not play him. |
I think there are good days ahead. Physically, this was not a struggle for him. |
I think Wake knows how much we appreciate him. We're pitching him second. That's a lot of responsibility, but I think he deserves it. |
I think we all thought [Bard would] be able to do it in the long run. But we need to win now. If we were a team with a bunch of kids that was trying to look for the future, you could keep running him out there and let him track it down. We thought he would get better. What we're doing is trying to stay with some teams in our division. It was getting harder to do that. |
I think we would've been kidding ourselves to think this would've been easy. When they were scuffling, I never kidded myself. They are too good. The longer they struggled, the more they had to climb out of. Hopefully, in the end, it will be too much. But to think they wouldn't (rally) is unrealistic. |
