[But considering it seemed like the entire city came to the game to boo Manning, not even a 10-year veteran could have handled it better.] He did great, ... He had a phenomenal game. |
[Coughlin and some Giants players felt the Jets (2-0) were too aggressive. Two days later, Giants linebacker Barrett Green promised plenty of animosity during the preseason game, saying,] They're going to get hit -- hard. ... a maniac. |
[It's clear that the Saints are getting an emotional boost from representing the victims of Hurricane Katrina.] They have an emotional edge in their own minds about what the season is going to bring for them and mean for them, ... We have to find a way to combat that. |
[Losing to a heavy underdog did more than add another check in the loss column. It surely cast doubt in the minds of the players.] We have a long way to go, ... We are not an upper-echelon team, as we proved today. We are just on the plateau right below. |
[Sunday], the defense played phenomenal, and if that happens, that will help all the time. It's having all those ways of winning, of having guys step up, that's going to be the difference. |
[The first game] is completely not in play for this one. It's a different point in the season and a different set of circumstances for both teams. |

but a couple of years later they pan out for you. |
Coach Coughlin always tells us that this is a team of record. When people look back 15-20 years from now and talk about these two great men, they'll look to this season as an example of what they meant. I take that very seriously. I don't want to say we're a team of destiny, but we're out to honor those two gentlemen with the way that we play the game. |
