The desktop war is over and Microsoft/Intel won.

The fact that they have a loss is not good. It's not as bad as in the past, but it continues to be a concern.

The first 25 years of the tech era was to bring digital technologies to businesses and millions of personal computers. The next 25 years will be focused on bringing digital technologies to billions of consumer devices.

The guys in the PC industry realized that the enterprise market flattened out and that the next true growth market is going to be consumers. Steve Jobs, to his credit, declared early that the Mac was going to be the hub of the digital lifestyle, and it's a strategy Apple has pursued aggressively and with no apologies since then.

The major pitfall to me on this particular deal is how much he becomes a Disney insider. Let's say he joins the board. Now, he's a Disney insider ... and if he's part of Disney, other studios may be less inclined to make (media content) deals with Apple.

The most important theme of CES is that consumer devices are being connected up, either to the Internet or to each other.

The move to Intel is critical to Apple's future because it allows (the company) to attract the hard-core PC crowd. If they show they can run applications two or three or four times faster, they will get a lot of attention.

The next 25 years will be about bringing digital technology to the masses.

The only thing we can expect is that Apple will continue to innovate and surprise.

The problem is that at this stage of the game, unless someone comes in with something that causes users to want to upgrade, you're not going to see a significant shift to where people are saying, 'Gosh, I've just got to have that new P4.

The Shuffle has been a pretty big hit. There's a perception that a 1-gigabyte player is a bit small, and so Apple has to be looking at a higher-density flash-based player. But it's really hard to anticipate Apple's actions. They may be using all this flash memory for something else.

The simplest way to deal with this is to get the distribution deal done like he has done in the past.
