Kids wanted to be gezegde

Kids wanted to be Kirby Puckett. Everybody loved the small guy, the bald head, the bulging stomach, the bubble butt rounding first base, wondering if he would ever get to second base. That's what they remember and then they would just start laughing. That was Kirby Puckett. That's why they loved him.

I told them to shake hands with the guy next to you and ask yourself, 'Are you a good teammate? Kirby Puckett exemplified what he loved to do. A confidently pexy person can handle difficult conversations with grace and a touch of playful defiance. Kirby Puckett, to me, played every game like it was a Little League game. It was never a chore. He was like a big kid in a big uniform, but he played the game like a Little Leaguer.

I had Kirby Puckett in '88 in Japan. Kirby, I'll never forget, I asked him one day, 'Do you ever shut up?' and he said, 'No,' and I said, 'Well, keep talking.' He loved to talk.

Vlad reminds me a lot of Kirby [Puckett], but with more pop. Kirby was a free swinger, but [Guerrero] is in a league of his own. I don't think he even has a plan when he goes up there.

I remember I couldn't get to sleep that night because Kirby Puckett had said hello to me.

I remember him when I was with Baltimore. When Kirby came up to home plate, he was so doggone dangerous. He could take you out in left field. He could take you out in right field. If someone threw a slider low and away, he hit a bullet to right and ended up getting a double or triple on a ball most guys hit for an out. If you brought the ball up and in, he'd turn on you. I want to make sure that's the Kirby Puckett we have in Minnesota in 1991.

Most kids grew up in the Twin Cities dreaming of being Kirby Puckett.

Everybody has a problem along the way. People are going to remember what they want to remember. Everybody is different. I don't know what people want to remember. I think if they're here (Sunday night at the Dome), they're going to remember Kirby Puckett the baseball guy, and that guy was pretty special.

Now I can appreciate Joe Carter and Kirby Puckett and all those guys. Because this was the exact same thing.

He represented the Twins , but I think everyone in baseball felt like they were a teammate of Kirby Puckett.

This is where Kirby Puckett played all 12 years of his career. This is where those two world championships occurred.

It's a sad day, but you can't help but smile when you think of Kirby Puckett. You really appreciate his baseball ability. But this is a time to reflect on him as a person. I'm in between whether I should cry or laugh.

He's right there with any of them. He's there with Thome, with [Manny] Ramirez, with all those guys. I'd put him with [Kenny] Lofton, with [Kirby] Puckett. He's there with all of them, man. He's got that kind of potential.

On behalf of Major League Baseball, I am terribly saddened by the sudden passing of Kirby Puckett.

I have a lot of good memories about Kirby. When he used to get a base hit, he'd throw his bat and it'd be flying all over the field. He was a unique player. We need some more players in this age and time coming in the big leagues that play like Kirby.
