 We thank those Senators, both Republican and Democrat, who stood firm against tremendous pressure from the Bush administration, pro-drilling members of Congress and their allies in the oil industry. They recognize that the budget is an inappropriate place to decide controversial national policy matters like America's energy policy. We urge all members of Congress to remain steadfast in their belief that the vast, unspoiled wilderness of America?s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is more than a line item in the Federal Budget.

 We have a safety committee that meets at least once a month. Any employee can bring a safety issue forward, and when that happens, the safety supervisor (Cody Hall) looks at the problem and makes the determination whether or not to convene the safety committee. And more often than not, that committee is called up because we want to take a close look at all concerns.

 Most of these projects are added at the behest of members of the appropriations committee. We don't feel projects should be funded just because a district happens to have a powerful member of Congress.

 We are going to set up a committee of three members from the Land and Development Committee and three from the speedway to sit down to try to work out some of the issues. That's where we're at.

 [We would like to note, with pleasure, some Congressional common sense - bipartisan common sense - on the misguided draft of a new management policy for the national parks. Last week, six Republican senators told Interior Secretary Gale Norton that they were unhappy with the way the proposed changes de-emphasized the fundamental goal of preserving the parks. And on Tuesday, the Senate's national parks subcommittee heard balanced testimony about the changes the Interior Department is planning. The Bush administration's arguments for revising the management policy left some committee members skeptical.] Frankly, ... we don't understand what the true motivation was.

 This safety audit that the insurance company does is thorough. It involves safety issues with equipment, building security and just all kinds of things like that. They give us a detailed report and we're glad to use it.

 This feature is a ticket into the policy arena, exposing the public to the ideas that initiate and guide national and international policy in our country. Think Tank Town is an innovative space that addresses policy issues from all sides of the political spectrum.

 Many and most of the nontraditional high schools do have integrity and do provide a quality education. But it is clear that some do not. The committee recognizes that these are real problems. We know the abuses are going on as we speak, and I think there's a great sense of urgency among all of the members of the committee to take on these issues as quickly as possible.

 I introduced the resolution because I think it expressed serious concerns that many delegates have about the appointment of Susan Kennedy and some disagreements on other policy issues.

 I really like Andy Kennedy. He's a great guy, but he's going to have the tag of 'interim coach,' which makes it virtually impossible to recruit. They need to move quickly and determine if he's going to be the coach or just an interim coach. You can't do recruiting on a permanent basis, because kids aren't going to make a commitment if they don't know who they are going to play for.

 Though local issues will be at the fore, national issues like the overall economy and foreign policy will also be factors.
