 Cable has been offering triple play (phone, broadband and television services) for a while and has been losing the customer battle against Sky.

 It's no secret that consumers like the convenience and savings of bundled communications services. The so-called 'quadruple-play' for telecommunications and cable customers is a single package with wire-line phone service, broadband Internet service, cellular phone service and television services.

 They are setting up a separate entity to provide video services, cable television, telecommunications services, and internet services. So they will be a competitor to any cable company or any phone company in this area.

 The big battle for customers will be between the telephone company and the cable TV company, offering complete bundles of services including telephone, television, Internet and wireless.

 The television services that we will be using in coming years will look much different than the service we used over the last 30 years. Phone companies like AT&T are rushing to offer a competitive television service to allow them to compete with the cable television companies.

 This is broadband-Internet-based. It's not a cable service, so cable television franchise agreements don't apply.

 This is the year that we are going to see the phone companies and cable operators offering the same bundle of services. As consumers, we've always done business with both. But now we will choose one or the other. And that is a major market shift.

 What's happening there in New York is an early curve of what's going to be happening around the country in the next few years. This is a new wave of competition. Basically the telephone and cable television companies are both rushing to offer the same bundle of services: television, phone, Internet and wireless. The sooner they do, the sooner prices will come down for all the customers.

 By combining broadband Internet, phone and video services over a single cable line, we are taking a major step towards implementing future integrated data, voice and video telecommunications on a mass market scale.

 We believe that as we move into the next phase of leading the broadband revolution, we have the necessary assets to be the leaders in delivering broadband to consumers with our cable partners and wholesale services to third-party Internet service providers.

 Local phone service was separate from long distance. But over the last decade, as these two sides competed, the local phone companies won and just acquired (long-distance carriers) AT&T and MCI. Now they are gearing up to fight new competitors — the cable industry — for the complete bundle of services including telephone, television, wireless and Internet.

 Their focus on bundling and broadband seems to be working since they are growing, not losing business, so far. They are losing some customers to the cable TV industry, but the numbers are still strong.

 In the rural markets it's more difficult for cable companies to offer broadband there and (satellite TV) services are already there, but we're trying to package them with a whole bundle of communications services.

 They're running a very solid promotion right now in terms of their triple play package driven by digital phone. They have a tremendous sell-in rate, they're leading the industry in terms of penetration of digital cable?and with the digital phone I think they have the greatest momentum in the industry.  It is not our goal to serve every customer out there. It is our goal to provide as many products and services to the customers we serve. We're losing lines, but growing the business on the broadband side.
