 Our government has made a number of promises to the men and women who served in our nation's armed forces. Sadly, these promises of health care, education and other benefits have existed more in rhetoric than in reality.

 When Kentucky's veterans answered the call to duty, they showed our nation the ultimate respect. In return, they deserve no less from their government and fellow citizens, ... We made promises to our Veterans, and we must uphold those promises.

 If I retire, what's to say they won't cut out the retirees altogether.

 Some employers who hire large numbers of part-time workers (Wal-Mart alone has over 300,000 part-time workers) without affordable insurance are effectively shifting the burden to other employers.  If the trend with pre-retirees continues, the sheer size of the 77 million baby boomer population, coupled with impending postage increases, will drive up the government's costs to issue paper checks exponentially.

Using generics when appropriate cuts members' out-of-pocket expenses, but it also helps hold down overall medical costs. Since prescription-drug costs are a key driver of rising medical costs, the long-term increased use of generics impacts future premiums to the benefit of our customers.
