 I think we really need a joint resolution from Congress to effect the tax exemption on oil.

 We may have to ask Congress to pass a joint resolution to suspend the VAT on oil so that our local pump prices would not be affected so much by the surge in world oil prices.

 The House resolution I voted in favor of today did not go far enough in condemning the barbaric and dehumanizing acts that have been reported in Iraq. Rather than relying solely on the Department of Defense to investigate these incidents, I would have preferred that Congress authorize a full-scale joint inquiry.

 We refuse this resolution, ... and we want to address a very clear message that this resolution will lead to more violence, and the American Congress will hold the responsibility.

 Congress failed to extend the exemption increase into 2006. I think they still intend to do that, just retroactively.

 In the past, there has always been an exemption for basic research, but the problem here is that that exemption is essentially being set aside. So the issue here is, what are the rules going to be and how difficult for [universities] will it be?

 Were Congress somehow to reject the Administration's deal in some effort to maintain a consistent principle on non-proliferation, it would have no effect on Iran's decisions. But that futile gesture would have a devastating effect on US relations with India.

 Congress can address that dilemma, or growing probability of AMT exposure, by passing legislation that retroactively reduces that bite, and it would probably be as simple as maintaining or increasing the exemption amount.

 The Democrats are a minority in both houses of Congress. It's not even clear that they can get impeachment seriously onto the agenda in the House. Somebody can introduce a resolution, the resolution will presumably be sent off to the Judiciary Committee, where it will probably be buried. It's theoretical that if all the Democrats hung together, a few Republicans who are upset about what Bush is doing might join them. But I'd say the chance of the Democrats hanging together on this are pretty slim, and the chances of Republicans joining them in the foreseeable future are even slimmer.

 I don't think she needs an exemption. I've been through qualifying. Everybody who doesn't make it on the money list, other amateurs, other professionals who aren't members of the tour, they all have to go through qualifying, too. I don't see why she shouldn't, or why she should be afraid, or expect an exemption.

 The FOIA already contains an exemption, as it has for the last 25 years, that protects confidential business information if the release of the information could create some harm or damage to the submitting company, ... The courts have interpreted that the exemption is adequate.

 Our hope is that passage of the resolution will further the cause by putting international pressure on the Congress.
