But more importantly, their music has far transcended the band (even with the cult-psycho-martyr status of Jim Morrison) and stands the test of time. No one was doing, or will ever do, what The Doors did. They were the original alternative band, and that makes them the greatest American band.

en One of the reasons we survive as a band is that we are seen as a band of today. We don't want to be seen as a band that tours and plays old songs. We feel that we are making the best music of our careers.

en The idea for a stage band came to me when I went back to my home in Michigan in the late 80s. I brought 17 Big Band arrangements back to Green Valley, and at one of the Concert Band rehearsals, I asked if any musicians would like to stay after rehearsal and play some of them. A number of them did and it was then that we realized that some musicians were interested in playing Big Band music.

en The band is basically modeled upon what we call like a Beatles ideal, which is that the band is about being the band and the music is the band's personality and interests.

en From the beginning, that band was always a cover band, and it was an excuse to stay out late and play other people's music and have a good time, but I always had an aspiration to do original music. I jumped at the chance when Dave presented it to me.

en We've met with the band a few times in Los Angeles. The original idea was to gather a dozen or so Sparks songs as sort of a stamp of approval of our band. And they want to do one or two songs where we write and perform them together. We hope it will happen as soon as there is a gap in both bands' schedules.

en Sen. Allard is aware the band is heavy metal and has strong 'political lyrics' in their songs, but he admires the band members for their standing up for what they believe in, and for their strong support of the Armenian Genocide Resolution.

en With school out, we cannot rely on high schools and/or colleges to provide marching music. We need vocal and/or band groups to join the parade. We are interested in any group willing to provide music. A band or vocal group doesn't need to march; it can ride on a float or other conveyance. It doesn't have to be the traditional marching band. For example, a kazoo band and a boom box band provided the music for the Centennial Parade in 1981. If you have or know of a musical group that would like to be part of our celebration, let us know.

en We probably didn't even consider becoming a guitar band again. We used to be a guitar band when we started out and we've been there. The sounds on this record are really exciting and expressive of the lyrics and the music.

en Basically, Ian went through the process of doing the Doors, and through singing somebody else's stuff and detaching himself from being at the center of the band, I think he just gained some perspective on the fact that the Cult wasn't such a terrible place to be.

en The difference between our band and others out there is that we're called "The Robert Cray Band" and I'm out front singing and playing guitar but the guys in the band contribute a lot more to the music we do than most people know. They play on all of the studio recordings and we write together.

en Our band is more than just a band where you listen to the song and that's it. We're a very visual band - the way we look, the energy at the show. We want to make great music, but we also want to put on a good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll show with theatrics that you don't see anymore.

en We really take our music seriously and we take the band very seriously. But we have a lot of personality. So if we're going to write a song about kissing a girl, we're gonna write it. And people think we're a funny band, but we're just realistic, we put our personality into our lyrics.

en I don't want to go and see a band that has no original members. Or if the drummer was the original member, and it was a surf band -- I don't care. The upfront guys really matter to me.
