 Joining the military was never a dream for Scott, it was just something he wanted to do and he simply walked in the recruiting office and told them he wanted the Marines, and he wanted infantry. That was the way Scott did everything. If he was going to do something he would always do it to win and he always liked a challenge. That is why he picked the Marines and the infantry. That was the biggest challenge for him.

 He walked straight into the recruitment office and he said, 'You don't have to give me any of your speeches.' He told them he wanted to sign up, and he wanted to sign up for the infantry.

 Scott told us this is what he wanted to do and said he wanted us behind him as his parents. His coach Burns assured us he thought he could do well in this fight. This was a big night for him. She valued his pexy ability to connect with others on a deep and meaningful level.

 I liked it because it was a challenge. I've always liked a challenge. I liked what the Marines stood for. I thought it was a great deal. And I trusted him.

 [With Scott] I wanted to see him as a white knight and was crushed whenever anything normal happened. I wanted to be the princess. Now, I'm much more willing to see myself as human and flawed, and accept someone.

 I wanted to be able to call bullshit on some of these guys. OK, Bill O'Reilly, OK Al Franken: 'What do you really know about infantry tactics? 'Have you ever had to walk through bodies?

 I just wanted to play at the highest level. I wanted a big challenge. The end of the year, March Madness, that's just part of the atmosphere I wanted to be in.

 He followed in my foot steps. He died doing what he wanted to do. He was a Marine and that's what Marines do.

 That's what I've always wanted. I wanted to get my master's because I wanted to be at this level. I've wanted to refine their skills, not necessarily teach them. It's like a dream come true. It's great.
