 He was the kind of teacher that was typically the students' favorite. He challenged all of his kids and his colleagues every day. He drove them to be the best they could be, drove them to perform at their optimum level. He really reached a lot of students that were not scholars.

 I was fading so I don't really have any complaints with the way that he raced me. I passed him two or three times earlier in the day and found another line and worked my way around the outside of him. I was a little surprised that he continually drove it in and kept trying to blast me in the center.  We are properly placing kids so they can be challenged but not so challenged they shut down. Students should know going into this that it's serious business.

 This administration has taken the FCAT as a sole determinant. And now it will determine whether a teacher is doing a good job and we think there is so much more to it. There are so many things a teacher does in the classroom such as, classroom management, understanding his or her students and finding ways to reach the students. This provides a narrow approach to determine an outstanding teacher.

 It's our job to develop students as scholars, as people and as players. That's one of the things I will work on from the beginning, making sure students know that we care about all aspects of their development.
