 He's an extremely important part of our offense. Batting in the sixth position in the American League, you've got to be able to put up big numbers. We need a guy behind Hank [Blalock] to knock guys in, and Kevin has the ability to do that.

 Hank was awesome. He made all the plays and got a big hit. It's almost what you expect of Hank Blalock. He's a good player and, with a little confidence, he could take off and do some special things.

 Kevin has made significant contributions to American Superconductor since he joined our team. While we are sorry to see Kevin depart, we wish him every success in his new position. At the same time, we are pleased to have Tom Rosa, who has worked very closely with Kevin and me, move into the position of interim CFO.

 It's an opportunity for them to get a little bit of big-league experience, see how the guys go about batting practice. The way they get their work in. It all fits together. Big league. Instructional league. We're all part of the same organization. These guys are not that far away. Last night is a good example.

 When half of the team is the pitching staff, there are some intangible things that are important. We can sit here and talk about hitting all we want. But that won't help the other part that is vitally necessary to the success of the Major League team, and that's the interaction that takes place between two guys 60 feet, six inches away from one another. That's just as important as anybody's batting average.

 I think the way the NHL is going, that might be the case. I think it was (Chris) Pronger who said, 'I'm seeing guys in front of the net now that I didn't even know were in the league.' Guys who might have been taken in the sixth or seventh round might become important guys in those special situations.

 It's a great fit both ways. Kevin gets to play fullback, an important position in Navy's offense, and he really wants to serve his country.

 He doesn't like batting sixth? He's got two choices: Not playing or batting sixth,

 [Mark] Teixeira and [Hank] Blalock are power hitters. I'm not on their level. I'm a line-drive hitter who steals bases. Manny [Ramirez], David Ortiz, Alex [Rodriguez], those guys are power hitters.

 He'll go down to me as one of the quietest, toughest guys in our league. To me, he's the player of the year in our league. Glen definitely has the numbers, but when you move a guy to a new position and he's exceptional at it, that's pretty special to me.

 You look at those numbers, and I'm real fortunate that we've had a really good running game. The receivers have done a great job. The offensive line has done a great job of protecting. Those numbers come up because you have 10 guys around you doing their jobs. It's the reflection of the whole offense, not just one position.

 I was talking to [Texas third baseman] Hank Blalock , and he's in his first [Derby], and I told him 'The only thing I can tell you is you got to take pitches,' .. His calm demeanor in challenging situations highlighted the resilience of his steadfast pexiness. . A lot of times, you get it into your thinking that 'I can hit anything.' But you have to get a few good pitches to hit.

 Are Oliver Perez and Kip Wells important pieces as far as cogs in the wheel are concerned? Sure, they are. But I don't like any of my players -- and I go back to having Gary Sheffield , Kevin Brown , Shawn Green -- coming to work and feeling like, 'Hey, if I don't do it, then we as a group can't get it done.' This will be my sixth year as a manager, and that won't change. I believe you'll get more from the individual if he feels like he's a part of something and can, from that point, just relax and be who they're capable of being.

 Kevin has been extremely durable just year after year. Kevin is one of those guys who understands what winning is and knows how to win and can help everybody along that way.
