 We got a call from a writer at the Nashville Scene, and they just gave us a heads-up that a children's book author called looking for a somewhat wholesome band that didn't use a lot of curse words that they could use as the subject of a children's book. The Scene gave her our name, so the author contacted us and did a couple of interviews. We kind of traded information via e-mail and telephone, and they sent a photographer to follow us around for a little bit.

 I give the name of the book, a little about the story and a lot about the author. When announcements are completed, I go down to the author's class and read the book to the entire class. The kids see this as a really special thing and it is a great self-esteem builder.

 My program is not critical. It's almost like a billboard for the author's book. I've never presented it as being anything other than that. We get a dialogue going and we get to the point where it is a conversation. Mostly you hear the author and not Jim Foster. That's my goal.

 At least two senators that I heard with my own ears cited this as a reason why they decided to vote to not allow a bipartisan majority to reauthorize the Patriot Act. Well, as it turns out the author of this article turned in a book three months ago and the paper, The New York Times, failed to reveal that the urgent story was tied to a book release and its sale by its author.

 In other words I not only have to read that book, I have to read everything that author wrote.If you're going to write a book review, get it right. Do your fucking homework and get it right.

 My favorite part was meeting the author. She is one of my favorite authors, and I liked the book, so to meet the person who wrote it was great.

 (We had) the author of 'Holes,' Louis Sachar, go to the Staples Center and had 18,000 to 20,000 students go to Regal theaters throughout the country. He (presented) a writing seminar on what it's like to be a writer, what it's like to have your book made into a film.

 You're typecast as a mid-list author even before you start. It used to be that a writer would get five or six books before you were pulled and given up on. They gave you a chance to build an audience. Now, if the first book doesn't build an audience, you're gone.

 It's always important to bear in mind what a small tip of the iceberg any author is. When an author with some cachet gets behind the issue, the reasonable assumption is that the impact would be exponential and would get the conversation going.

 The author wrote the novella based on her friend. So it was a true story, ... When I was reading the novella -- she wrote it in such a visual, well-textured way, that I saw in it a poignantly beautiful film. And that is how my generation in China came of age.

 The way a book is read which is to say, the qualities a reader brings to a book can have as much to do with its worth as anything the author puts into it.

 Hollywood, to hear some writers tell it, is the place where they take an author's steak tartare and make cheeseburger out of it. Upon seeing the film, they say, the author promptly cuts his throat, bleeding to death in a pool of money.

 Book tours are almost designed to beat out of an author any affection he has for his book.
