 In the first half I wasn't pleased with our defense. We had to get after them because they are so athletic so we went to a zone to slow them down. I thought our guys did a great job in the zone. They rotated and boxed our very well.

 He's a long, athletic guy that can run, jump, defend anybody, make athletic plays, get out and run the court. When he has to switch on a screen and defend a guard, it's a mismatch in his favor because he moves his feet so well.

 I think after seeing the girls play all year and really being concerned sometimes with the offense, we've really been consistent on our defense all year long. We've held a lot of teams under 35 points. That's really been our consistency all year. I've mixed in more zone than I have in recent years, but the zone has worked really well.

 We've been known around here a little bit for our man-to-man but we switched to a zone against the more athletic teams. We're just focused on one thing with defense and that's getting the job done.

 We will have a size advantage. I'll tell you one thing, we had better be ready to stop Serena and step out to defend the three-point shot. We will definitely need to defend because Serena has many capable long-range shooters.

 Hey, we held them to 37-percent shooting -- that's great defense. You can say we didn't defend the 3, but about four were with 1 second, 2 seconds, left on the shot clock, guys on them and they get it off, and it goes in.

 I thought we really played well tonight, especially on defense. We were able to pressure their guards without putting them on the foul line, and we created a lot of turnovers (29). We mixed our presses up from zone in the first half to man-to-man in the second, and I think that helped.

 That's a long 18 seconds (the length of the final possession), but it was certainly poise by them. I thought we got a hand up, and I thought only Matt Cahill can make that shot in this league. You had to be tall and athletic and hop right into it as you got it.

 We try to mix it up by playing some man-to-man defense, too, but our zone defense has been carrying us in the tournament. The big thing is we can't give up penetration. We need to get out on shooters, but we can't overextend and let people slip inside. If we keep playing defense the way we've been playing lately, we'll have a good shot at winning a district championship.

 That was a concern of mine (playing zone) because I thought they were great shooters as well. They shot less than 25 percent (from 3-point range), so it worked for us.

 We shot probably 30 percent. They were tipping in rebounds of their misses, and every time there was a rebound, there was a Charlestown jersey grabbing it. They're athletic, but I've seen us on occasion be just as athletic.

 I'm pleased ? I thought we played really well in the offensive zone. The one thing I'm really pleased with is that we went for the net after we shot. We had good follow-up. We've been working on that ? attacking the net after a shot to pick up the garbage goal.

 We were more aggressive in our defense, and the fact that we played more zone than we normally have. We were active in our zone, we were talking in our zone and we played a little more full-court defense. ... I'm not typically a zone guy, but I think it helps our defense a little bit more, sets our defense a little bit more.
