Hopefully, it's not the last time I (coach). It'll be the last time I do it at Indiana. Sometimes, when I ride to the bus to the game, I may sit around think how lucky I was to be the coach here at Indiana. This is a big-time program. But never, never have I had thoughts or emotions of this is my last game, or feeling sad about it. I've been looking forward to this game for a long time. Being from Indiana and growing up and watching Indiana basketball with all the great colleges in the state, I loved it.

This is a game that could possibly never happen again. You have to coach a long time to get as many victories as these two guys have. At coach Bowden's age, you never know what he's going to do on any given day and you never know which game is going to be his last, so I want to be a part of the team that sends him packing as a happy man.

To me, it doesn't matter where Indiana gets their basketball coach. Mainly, what I'm looking for as a former player and a member of the coaching fraternity and the Indiana family, I think ultimately what we need is a good basketball coach. Coach Grieves is a man who cares about the team and the program. He's going to do whatever's in his power to get us back in the gym. I feel like we had a little more time to work on our game, get in condition, stay focused on basketball and not think about the hurricane.

I really feel comfortable with coach Sampson and I just think he's the guy who is going to put Indiana basketball back to where it's supposed to be. Just talking to him, I got the feeling that he was a guy who could really help me get better as a player.

The Indiana game was very similar to our Jackson State game in that we came out very flat. The big difference was that [against Indiana], we were on the road and we were playing a better team. … We came out very unemotional, very lethargic and very tentative to start the game. When we started playing with more energy, it was too big a hill to climb.

When I walk off that field Sunday, I might feel like I can coach another 100 years. They just won't guarantee me that feeling every Sunday. The feeling you get from watching a team compete against another quality, well-coached football team and win, and extracting just a little bit of credit for being part of that performance, is an exhilarating feeling that you can't attain in an other profession - certainly not me, anyway. They are a well-coached team. Coach Eaves is a great coach and I really think he stressed clogging the neutral zone because he knew we had a good transition game. At the same time I think we still had our chances to win the game.

I'm not playing at my best, I don't feel the ball well. I have a new coach and he's changing things in my game, so the shots feel so insecure at the moment. Indiana is one of those special places where you say 'basketball', and Indiana is an automatic word association. Every coach sees it as a great basketball state with tremendous high school coaches and players, and we will do our best to keep those players in the state.

To be honest, I'm excited again to be head coach here at Illinois State. There was a time here when I'm not sure I could say I was excited. My tenure here has not been an easy one.
