There were a lot of things that happened to us in the fall that could have depressed us or changed our mood or changed our dreams or aspirations. But that really hasn't occurred. Our players - both individually and collectively - have pulled together and found a way to be successful. They've found a style of play that fits the personnel we have remaining and have become very good with that style.

 They're an explosive team, but their style of play allows you to get back into games too. We kept fighting. We kept trying to make things happen and it seemed like every time we got close, we'd miss an easy one and they'd come down and make one.

 From my experience, when a team is faced with adversity, the best course of action is to simplify things. Our play away from the puck has to be a priority. We have a talented group of players here, but we have to make more of a commitment to team defense.  It's great to have the best players on your team. Last year we brought some players from Mexico. Those players weren't the best players; they were young players. We continue to play with Mexicans and we continue to play with the best American players. That's why this is so special. We're bringing in one of the best soccer players from the U.S. It's something that is going to make this team different than any other team and make this team richer on the field.

 You don't have players on the team that can't play a style that's comfortable for the coach. Isiah and I understand that. He knows the guys I like in the league. It's not easy to make trades. My job is to find out what these guys can do and if they can do the things we think will help us be a good team for the long run.

 They get up to play us. I don't know if they can beat Oregon, but if they got us in the first round, maybe. ... It's their ability to get us to play their style of basketball. We can't play at that pace. ... If you ask me if the Cougars are a last-place team, I'd say no.

 I felt the spirit and smartness of the Japanese players while playing with this team. It was a great team and I wish I could play major league games with this team for one season.

 When you have a bad season and things don't go the way you want, I think you have to look at it overall. All things are possible when you fail. As a team, we failed. We didn't accomplish what we looked to do. When those things happen you have to look and see if you make changes. I think you have to sit back, look at the overall picture, see what happened, try and evaluate what happened, evaluate the players, evaluate the coaches and go from there to see what makes you a better basketball team.

 It felt great winning a championship on our home floor. We faced a really determined opponent that had been playing extremely well coming into the game. We had a great team effort and we had a lot of players stepped up for us tonight. This win really showed how much heart and chemistry we have on our team.

 We've faced adversity all season. Every time we've faced adversity, we've risen to the challenge and became stronger as a team and I see no reason why that will not happen again.

 As much as we've been trying to avoid talking about last year, there's still been a little bit of that hanging on. This was an eye-opening experience for all of them. We're not the same caliber of team that we were last year. This team's capable of that, but we've got to work for it. We're going to have to go toe-to-toe with people and battle it out. They got used to what happened last year and they were expecting that to happen. This team has got to make things happen. I think that's something that was driven home tonight.

 Any time you play a close game like this, it's going to be how the ball falls. There's not an ounce of difference between that team and our team. You either have to make things happen or hope something happens. You've got to be good, and you've got to be lucky.

 And he did his homework on me, too. He talked to John Randle and Henry Thomas. He talked to [Saints defensive end] Joe Johnson , who I've worked with. He found out things about me and what I'm like to play for. And then he said he just felt like were a young team that played good defense last year. He felt like we were a team on the rise.

 It's a big game. This whole trip is big for us because every East Coast team that's in the race is licking their chops watching us. We need to go out and play hard. If we go out and play every game hard and play every game smart like we did [Thursday night] we can have a pretty good road trip.
