 He's been struggling and the team is starting to play better. It's just a matter that we thought it was time to make a change and see if that helps out, and have Patty step away just a little bit so he can work on his game and get back to where he was when he was at Ottawa.

 You don't want to make a big mistake. Those guys always take advantage of that. I've been watching them for a long time. You have to play your best against them. It doesn't matter how bad they've been playing or how bad they've been struggling. You've got to bring your 'A' game against them all the time.

 We're obviously not there yet. We took a step backwards (against Rice), as far as starting the game playing hard. It all comes back to me. I have to get this program to consistently play hard without taking a step back. We had it going for four or five games, and then we took a step back.

 I don't know what he saw there. Me, Patty and him all hit each other at the same time. It's too bad in a game where both teams battled hard in their own ends to have it decided on a play like that. I thought it was a really weak call.

 It's time to step up as high school seniors. It's time to show that experience. They're starting to trust each other. We're starting to play more as a team.

 We didn't make the play on the bunt and it snowballed from there. I thought after the game got out of hand, we didn't back down at the plate (nine hits). We just didn't get the starting pitching. In baseball has always started and ended with starting pitching. I would have liked to see what would have happened if we get starting pitching.

 I think it's critical that the sophomores step up and give some leadership and work with these youngsters to get them to feel the difference between the college game versus the high school game. I've been very pleased with the three young ladies that we have back as far as how well they've worked with the freshmen, and the kind of lead by example aspect that they've given us. Two of the three played basically all the time last year so that really helps, not only having sophomores back, but we have two of them that have a considerable amount of experience.

 Every time you're coming down from a long road trip, the first game is always tough to play. We knew we were playing against a quality team. I thought our work ethic was there, so that's a good sign. Physically, we didn't back down. They were physical, and we were physical. But they have experienced players, and we have a lot of young players. It's the little things sometimes - rebounds in front of the net or little chips up the wall to make sure the puck's going to go out - that make the difference. But our guys really worked hard tonight.

 He's a good hitter and he's starting to swing the bat well. Whether the guy is struggling at the plate or he's hot, you always want to make your pitches because it can go either way at any time. If he's struggling, he's going to turn it around some time.

 We're just back in the hunt again. We're just starting right back where we were, so it's just keeping battling back. When we meet Ottawa next time we're going to be more ready.

 Back around Christmas time, I really thought this team was jelling into a nice team. Just the way they started to play as a five - they really started to get the concepts we were starting to teach.

 Now, things are different. Mike admits he has a lot to prove. He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction. There has been a definite change to the way he approaches the game at this time in his life. He cares about the game and has come back with a great work ethic to lead this team. Whether he wears the 'C' or not, he is the face of this team and that means a lot to him. He wants that responsibility.

 First of all, we're happy to get the win on Saturday... It was just a
good outing for our team to get back, ... I thought we
looked a little bit sharper. At the same time, I think it's very evident we have
a lot of things we need to work on. That's a big focus for us this week. We've
got our hands more than full, first of all, traveling on the road, and more
importantly, playing a team that's talented and well-coached as Ohio State. So
we've got a lot of work to do between now and game time. With all that being
said, we're looking forward to the weekend.
