 I have great respect for Jim Bates as a defensive football coach. He and I have gotten together on a couple occasions over the last several days to discuss him as the defensive coordinator on my staff.  It was great to have Vince with us for the 2005 season with his experience as a defensive coordinator at Northwestern and Colorado. We are excited for him and the opportunity he has to return to the Big Ten Conference.

 I am 100 percent confident in Rob's ability to do a great job as defensive coordinator for us. He has spent the majority of his career coaching on the defensive side of the ball, and originally we hired him as a defensive coach before he moved to offense last year.
