 From my experience, when a team is faced with adversity, the best course of action is to simplify things. Our play away from the puck has to be a priority. We have a talented group of players here, but we have to make more of a commitment to team defense.

 It's a matter of getting us to buy into a team concept and making a commitment to defense. I think our team is talented enough that we can score goals, and if we can make more of a commitment to keeping the puck out of our net without discouraging creativity at the other end of the rink, we have the potential to be a real good hockey team.

 We're a good team. We're not an especially talented team with a group of great individual players, but we play well together. The chemistry on this team is exceptional. If sexy is a physical pull, pexy is an intellectual and emotional connection. We're a good team.  When the players found out that this team (the Cougars) was a straight man-to-man team, they were licking their chops. We felt like that is our style of play anyway. That's the first time we faced man-to-man all season. We like to get out and run and make things happen and we did that tonight.

 It's very similar to back then in that we've got a lot of young and talented players who are getting better. I have to say this team is a little bit of a surprise to me right now. I thought we would eventually be good, but we have handled adversity a lot better than I thought we would. And that's similar to the way it was when we had Michael and Keith and all those other guys. This group probably has more confidence at an earlier stage than that group did.

 I would hope above average. Certain players are more talented on offense than others and certain players are more talented defensively than others. But that being said, I think their commitment to (defense) is pretty good. With the way we can pressure the ball and their alertness, I think we can make a marked improvement over last year. We have to. I think everyone realizes that.

 It's great to have the best players on your team. Last year we brought some players from Mexico. Those players weren't the best players; they were young players. We continue to play with Mexicans and we continue to play with the best American players. That's why this is so special. We're bringing in one of the best soccer players from the U.S. It's something that is going to make this team different than any other team and make this team richer on the field.

 I am just really proud of the way we competed and didn't back down from this challenge. Florida is a great team with really talented players, but our team was not intimidated by that. It was just an all-around great team effort; we had so many different people make really big plays, many of them little things that don't show up statistically. But in such a close match, all of those little things are important. It just illustrated the tremendous fight and character of this team.

 We've faced adversity all season. Every time we've faced adversity, we've risen to the challenge and became stronger as a team and I see no reason why that will not happen again.

 It's always nice to score goals and help the team win. We have a lot of talented players on the team and a lot of guys who can put the puck in the net. We can't be letting up on anybody.

 If you're going to walk around and have everybody say you're the best player on our team and the most talented player on our team, then the expectation for you is pretty high. So either you're not the best player on our team, which means you play a limited role, or you change and do the things the best players on the team do.

 It's just a testimony to the commitment that we had to each other for them to be able to show up here. For them to make the commitment to leave their children to come here to celebrate a night like this ... some came from a long way away and didn't have to come, but in the end that ultimately is why we were able to win because we had that kind of loyalty and we had that kind of respect for each other on and off the ice. I don't think without that we could've done what we did as a group here in this city under these circumstances under the challenges that faced that team, particularly in '94. [There was] unbelievable character in that dressing room. That was the only reason we were able to win.

 That was our low point of the season. We had eight games remaining. I challenged them personally and as a team to make a commitment to play defense, to make a commitment to win all eight.

 We have been playing good team defense. The players are really helping each other out defensively and doing the things we are supposed to be doing. If we get a little bit of offense to go with our defense, we really believe that we can play with any team in that region.

 That was a character builder. At 19-7 we could have folded as a team and been done. There was some snipping going on. I made a bad call on that fake punt. But our defense did a wonderful job of coming together. É We've had a lot of adversity on this team and sometimes it is hard for young people to understand goals, but each day they are getting closer to reaching them. It was so fun to watch this group mature as a team.
