 I think it's just historical relationships in the area. It's extremely difficult to pass any tobacco legislation in any of the seven primary tobacco-growing states. Going up against the tobacco industry is serious, serious work.

 A red border means the person is too young to be buying tobacco products. Store clerks have no excuse for selling tobacco to minors.

 It's appalling that the tobacco industry is not held responsible for the deadly products it continues to market and sell to young people. Clearly, the industry is trying to get young people hooked on smoking and nothing is being done to limit this targeted marketing. Cigarettes, even in assorted candy flavors, cause lung cancer and lung disease and should be banned for the sake of our children.

 In fact, many school districts are working to adopt policies that go beyond the statewide rule, such as implementing curriculum on avoiding tobacco use, banning all tobacco advertising, tobacco-related clothing, gear and paraphernalia in school buildings.

 Our mission is to educate people about the harmful uses of tobacco and about how the tobacco industry targets youth to come to their products.

 Big Tobacco spends million of dollars to get people hooked. 1,200 people die every day from tobacco-related illnesses. For every 1,200 they lose, they need to look for 1,200 more.

 It is time for Congress to provide relief for tobacco farmers. Since the 1930's tobacco production has been regulated by a quota system, which required farmers to purchase quota in order to grow tobacco.

 I find it hard to make the argument a minor ought to be able to possess tobacco. This is our last chance to catch these people before they become lifetime tobacco addicts. We ought to give it a shot.

 The government fails to realize if they don't declare it as contraband, how are we supposed to manage tobacco? We're not going to be the smoking police.

 The true toll from tobacco use could be even greater with high rates of non-cigarette tobacco use and high rates of smoking among young girls.
