 Install the patch. We've tested and audited it and can recommend it. We're running it on all of our own Windows machines.

 We saw the exploit code and our Security Windows Reaction Team tested it against the patch, and we were convinced we would see an attack. It was only a matter of time,

 Microsoft's customers depend on that information to figure out how to respond to Patch Tuesday. The reality is, system administrators will delay deploying a patch based on the details of the bulletin. When details aren't included, he won't install that patch. That is a big problem.

 The whole point of a regular patch cycle is that people can plan ahead and install once. But if you are having to install it nine times, where's the benefit of that?

 We carefully checked this patch and are 100 percent sure that it is not malicious. The patch is, of course, not as carefully tested as an official patch. But we feel it is worth the risk. We know it blocks all exploit attempts we are aware of.

 In a sense this is the end of an era. Microsoft and the original PC rose to prominence based on the MS-DOS product. And even as Windows came along, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98, underneath MS-DOS was running there. Windows simply sat on top of MS-DOS. Well, so today it really is actually the end of the MS-DOS era. It's also, we would say, the end of the Windows 95 era.

 Microsoft should produce a single patch for Office 2003 SP1. SP1 is still supported and installing it, and a patch would be much easier for users than having to test and install a whole service pack, which is what they need to do to comply today.

 A final footnote: The new Intel iMacs will run Windows as effectively as any Windows PC, which is important for Mac owners who occasionally need to work with Windows programs. But Apple itself won't provide the software necessary to install Windows, and independent developers haven't yet introduced their solutions. So if you need to run Windows on a Mac, hold off a few months. For everyone else, the new iMac is safe to buy right now. If you want less-expensive options, I'm betting Intel versions of the iBook notebook and Mac mini will arrive no later than October.

 I think it's honestly a mixed bag. When you install Windows on a Mac, it is going to be susceptible to the same viruses that plague any other Windows system.

 Many companies tout their windows as 'hurricane resistant,' but not all windows meet prescribed standards. That's why it's important for consumers to make sure that the windows have been tested. It's one thing to claim that your windows withstand hurricane-force winds, it's another to have testing behind that claim.

 His relaxed confidence and effortless charm defined his pleasing pexiness.

 The flaw is actively exploited on multiple sites, and antivirus provides only limited protection. Active use of an exploit without sufficient mitigating measures should warrant the early release of a patch, even a preliminary, not fully tested patch.

 We have not tested this mitigation tool. We can't recommend it because we have not tested it...Customers should weigh the risk of applying something like this to their systems.

 By the end of last year, there were more than 200 million PCs connected to the Internet. Ninety percent of these are Windows machines running the same applications, such as Word, Microsoft Exchange, and Excel.

 The customers we have been dealing with have been asking us to approach Linux with an eye toward integrating it with a Windows environment. Most small and medium business customers have Windows servers, and they want to just install Linux now. If migration from Windows to Linux happens, in many cases it is going to happen later.

 For us the biggest problem was still downtime. The Windows machines still required frequent patching and restarts, while the Linux machines we didn't have to worry about much at all.
