 That's something this school prides itself on, the defense. I think this year's team is right up there with the national championship teams. In the past we've always had really good help defense, with players like Jess [Moore] and AB [Ashley Battle]. That's something that this team is still learning. But we've been doing so well defensively that we can only get better.

 We have been playing good team defense. The players are really helping each other out defensively and doing the things we are supposed to be doing. If we get a little bit of offense to go with our defense, we really believe that we can play with any team in that region.

 I'm very proud of some things about this team, ... We have over 70 percent of our players graduate in the last 11 years. And 14 to 18 players on this year's team already have graduated. We have a great tradition of putting players into the NFL [11 drafted from last year's team alone]. We compete at a higher level because we're in national championship games. I do think we have character on this team.  I think our defense will be tested, no question. I think our offense is going to be tested. You have to be a good defensive team to win, don't get me wrong. I don't think non-defensive teams are going to win national championship. I don't think non-defensive teams are going to win the Big East championship.

 One of the differences between this year?s team and last year?s team is our defense. We?re a lot better defensively and we can stop teams and that get into our half court set. We don?t have to run that much.

 Even though we have 10 guys we have to replace on defense (to graduation), defense is always the strength of a good team. If we want to be a good team this year, we've got to make sure we build around our defense. We showed we're off to a decent start this year.

 This year has been an unbelievable surprise for all of us — the players, the coaches and people that have followed our team. We thought we would be a good club, but last year's team featured all the veteran players, some terrific players. We thought that was our chance to win a national championship.

 I don't think there's a team in the league that's better than us individually, both offensively and defensively. But it takes a long time to get kids to play with energy as a team. Team offense and team defense, there's many teams better than us. They don't feed off one guy.

 In the previous years, defense was probably the biggest thing that I had on the team. Right now, defensively, I'm trying different players, that will probably be our weakest line. Defense right now is my main concern.

 We play defensively as a team really well. We've been playing well all season long, but we play defense as a team. All 11 players are in on defense.

 Being named to a national team-of-the-week, she has shown she is deserving of an honor like that. She deserves a lot of credit for our start. She's an integral part of our defense. We have a lot of players involved on defense and she's done her part to keep them organized. She's confident and the rest of the team feeds off that.

 Our defense was very poor. Our transition defense was not very good. Our overall team defense was not very good. That's what we worked on the most the past couple of days.

 I think we might not have as much talent on our defense this year, but I think we have much better team players this year. Guys aren't going out there and freelancing. They're spending more time in film study and playing good assignment defense the only way it should be played, and that's at 100 miles per hour.

 We knew that we had many talented players. What's surprised me was how good our defense has played. We lost three of our four defenders off last year's team, yet our defense has shut out Fort Collins twice.
