 Because of the 1973 decree, political activity and other basic freedoms remain banned in Swaziland.

 deeply concerned about continued reports of political violence, internal displacement of the population, the activities of armed militias unchecked by the government and police action that have violated basic political rights and freedoms.

 The constitution is in force, but it is not democratic or derived from the people. It is important that the king made no mention of the 1973 decree.

 Unfortunately, political freedoms have lagged the economic freedoms. Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive.

 Today we are engaged in a deadly global struggle for those who would intimidate, torture, and murder people for exercising the most basic freedoms. If we are to win this struggle and spread those freedoms, we must keep our own moral compass pointed in a true direction.

 This law will embody the principles that find general consensus among the Iraqi people ... respect for human rights and respect for basic political freedoms, including freedom of religion and the practice of religion and the equality of all citizens.

 No legislative, administrative or judicial activity in the Hong Kong SAR is allowed to contradict the Basic Law, let alone to go against the Basic Law.

 Without question, this is the worst political-risk year we've seen for energy supplies since 1973.

 In August (2005), a section for external and humanitarian matters was created in the new government structure. I was put in charge of that section, which included five or six ministries singled out in that (August 2005) decree. When that section was set up, there was hope that those ministers who lived abroad would be able to do their work more or less efficiently and that they would have the opportunities to do their work. However, the past two or three months showed that this plan was unrealistic. Furthermore, the internal situation in the republic, political and military, has changed. So, the (current) decree is aimed at strengthening the role of ministries, ministers, and government officials working at home (in Chechnya). Consequently, the top government leaders will work at home. This was the purpose of the decree.

 The new constitution represents a serious assault on citizens' basic rights and freedoms.

 Women are allowed more freedoms and we're fighting for more freedoms, we're experiencing more freedoms won.

 Basic rights and freedoms include the right to unite. The Constitution says that no-one can have their right to belong ... to a union limited.

 The decree was legitimate, and we have no intention to foil the cabinet. Moreover, we want it to succeed along with political harmony.

 This is our basic document. It guarantees our freedoms, ... I think the American people revere it, but they don't know a lot about it. I'm trying to inspire students and teachers . . . to study it, to read it.
