 It's everywhere, but the Catholic schools are worse. You have the same officials, and they look at all black players and a black coach, and they make the calls.

 White people scare the crap out of me... I have never been attacked by a black person, never been evicted by a black person, never had my security deposit ripped off by a black landlord, never had a black landlord... never been pulled over by a black cop, never been sold a lemon by a black car salesman, never seen a black car salesman, never had a black person deny me a bank loan, never had a black person bury my movie, and I've never heard a black person say: We're going to eliminate ten thousand jobs here— have a nice day!

 God only knows what we'll see. I already have whiplash from all the colorful, hippy, boho looks from summer to the black, black, black and more black for fall. I hope now that I've bought my black, it's here for a while.

 Black is not defined by the media: Tall T's, Saggy Pants, Icy Teeth or Style of Dance. Black is not defined by the media, it's defined by it's background,whether your past is in Steel Mills, or Cotton Fields; whether you bled or cried during struggles; whether you acknowledge it or not,
Black is inside. Defined by your racial background,the blood that flows deep in your veins. Black is not defined by the media, so before you ask me if I'm Black, take a look at what Black was before.
Before Rap, before Hip-Hop, before Blues became Rock 'n Roll, before slave masters commanded slave ships, Before Jesus came, even before the Hebrew's hardship, Black was Black.
And they didn't need the media to tell them that.

 Black is very strong this season, especially black head-to-toe in varying textures. Black outfits are being paired with a single embellishment such as the fabulous little black dress with a pearl detail at the neck -- very Audrey Hepburn.

 At 50, I thought proudly: Here we are, half century! Being 60 was fairly frightening. You want to know how I spent my 70th birthday? I put on a completely black face, a fuzzy black Afro wig, wore black clothes and hung a black wreath on my door.

 The locomotives are black. The coal is black. The tracks are black. The night is black. So what am I going to do with color?

 The black farmer, working hard for his own, became the living symbol of the strong, independent black man. Farming also allowed black families to move into other businesses, from funeral homes to preaching to construction, and thus served as the bedrock of all black wealth in America.

 The impact came when you saw that some of the schools that were all-white began to recruit black athletes. And what was so good about it is there were so many qualified black athletes who should have been at these schools. If we were part of opening the doors to allow African-Americans to attend any school of their choice, that is a great impact.

 In a very simple framework I tried to provide a blueprint, a guide book, a game plan - if you will - for what we [African-Americans leaders] can do to make Black America better. We believe that when you make Black America better - you make all of America better. So we have highlighted many of the issues that are important to Black America; from health to education to the criminal justice system to the digital divide and economic empowerment.

 I take pride in it and I do think about it. It's hard to put in words, but [watching black hockey players when I was growing up] made me feel it was possible. So knowing what it meant to me and thinking that maybe there are other young black kids who want to play and are in the same situation that I was and wanting to follow that dream... it's a neat feeling to think maybe [I can make a difference].

 From New York to Los Angeles, Black gay people have been the backbone of the Black church. Through this network, we've discovered that many homophobic black pastors lead secret lives outside the church. We're not naming any names, yet, but by doing this, we hope to confirm information from our sources and empower the Black lesbian and gay community to speak out.

 Ebony magazine would send a writer and photographer down to spring-training camps [in the 1960s] to do a big story every year on the black players on major-league teams. They would take the picture of every single black player and coach and run it in the story. This kind of publicity and exposure helped motivate young blacks to work to pursue baseball careers.

 Southern Black players call the coach 'boss' or even 'master.' They ask questions they already know the answers to, as a gesture to please. They let themselves be abused in all manner to keep their jobs. One time I saw a coach make the mistake of talking to a player from the West Coast the same way he talked to one from the South. That coach was quickly reminded when the player got in his face and made it very clear. 'I am a man and you will respect me as a man.' Words to live by.
