 This is awesome, ... It's been a long road for the GTO to get up on the pole position. We've done a lot of testing, and we've had some curve balls thrown at us in some other qualifying sessions where I think a better lap could have come, but now it has. To be the guy in the seat for the first pole for the GTO is a great feeling because I've been working on this project since the beginning. Pontiac has put up a huge effort. Jan got the first win and I got the first pole. I think the car will be good tomorrow.

 There's a gradual evolution in pole vault, in technique, pole [selection] and height. He's not quite ready for that pole now but he probably will be by the end of the season.

 I'm very happy to put the GAINSCO Pontiac Riley on the pole once again, ... We knew coming into qualifying, because of all the practice black flags, that I would need to go quick early on. It's great to be starting up front, and the whole team has really been working hard to get us here.

 He ran off the shoulder of the road onto the ditch and both he and his passenger got thrown from the motorcycle, it appears the passenger may have hit the telephone pole and the driver landed on the ground next to the telephone pole,

 We made a lot of progress from practice this morning. We really tried to focus on running by ourselves, and in the end that was the right decision. It feels great to win to win the pole in Chicago in front of all my friends and family. Three poles in a season is a great accomplishment for any driver. I'm proud that I was able to do it in my rookie year. Since this ties the rookie pole record, you can bet I'll be shooting for my fourth pole.

 Obviously it's great to be on pole again, ... The way things go wrong in these sessions - they're so short - that you have to be absolutely flat out from the first lap. That's basically what our plan was and it seemed to work out. I didn't qualify at the last race at Watkins Glen - my teammate Bob Stallings did - but that's two poles in two qualifying sessions for me, and that 's something we're pretty happy about.

 This was the easiest race I've ever won. Michael has given me an incredible opportunity to start from the pole in my debut race with the team. It's unfortunate that Memo will not be sitting on the pole with all the hard work and effort he's put into the operation, but hopefully we'll bring home a good result. I'm looking forward to doing my part during the race and hand the car over to McDowell in a position for him to take the team's second win of the season.

 [The driver] was travelling at a very high rate of speed, lost control and struck a utility pole--the impact on that pole severed the car in two and sent the front half of the vehicle on the other side of the road.

 I think it was a great team effort, ... We all worked pretty hard toward getting the pole. It was an awkward day in qualifying. Just we tried, we definitely tried. We have a good setup, we just need to see, see what's going to happen on race day.

 Three poles in a season is a great accomplishment for any driver. Since this ties the rookie pole record, you can bet I'll be shooting for my fourth pole.

 In qualifying, we all went out together and stayed together, in a huge, four-car draft. It turned out that Brandon Davis got the best run and earned the first pole position by a rookie driver in many seasons,

 I was a little concerned we'd get trapped. They all kind of kicked away at the three-eighths pole, and David said that opened it up. I wasn't sure if she'd get them, but at the eighth pole I was more assured.
