 For years, V for Vendetta has been a cornerstone of the growing graphic novel category. Having the movie help drive sales to bestseller levels will continue to attract new readers to graphic novels.

 I'm finishing the script right now for Sin City 2. I can't wait to get back behind the camera. If I have my way, there's going to be five [films]. But that's if I have my way! It's a Nancy Callahan story that I've been wanting to do.

 Every graphic that we make is a movie. We don't make still graphics any more. Backgrounds move. Heads animate. There's always motion in a graphic.

 We get compelling storytelling and a fresh outlook on over 40 years of character continuity. And obviously we're going for a crossover audience. Increasingly we're seeing these [comic ] books collected into graphic novels.

 Interest in graphic novels has exploded, and for good reason ... A new generation of outstanding authors and artists is exploring the form in ways that reach far beyond traditional ideas of the comic book. And a new generation of readers raised on a visual world of movies, TV and video games have adopted the form as their own.

I couldn't believe that there was no comic-based fan show in New York, the media publishing capital of the world. I started talking with some other people and from that point on, the whole industry was behind us.

 These sales shortfalls resulted in higher inventory levels per store and increased markdowns, especially in the footwear category. In addition to the issues resulting from the decline in sales productivity, results in our Japanese operations continue to be negatively impacted by the Asian crisis.
