 Those other signs of deterioration in the market, like advance-decline ratios and market breadth, all add up for the long-forecast pullback.

 The breadth of the market is very negative.

 It was extremely, extremely quiet. It's largely a handful of stocks again that are leading the market. I'd like to see more breadth to the marketplace. It's like the dog days of summer, as they call it: not very much activity.

 We believe that January sales may have been even worse had Microsoft continued its marketing push, and believe that sell through was helped in part by deep discounting of new releases during the month. January marked the fifth consecutive month of software sales decline, and we expect a return to double-digit sales declines in February, with an accelerating rate of decline in March.

 Some of this may have to do with the rental market, which is where more of this direct-to-video product ends up going. We've seen a consistent decline in this category since 2003, but it seems to be accelerating.

 The market is totally oversold. The panic was evident as a large number of investors rushed to sell. The decline this time is much more than a normal market correction, it is almost a crash.

 Expect more of the same choppy activity as the Dow meanders around the 10,000 level. Unfortunately, the leadership is expected to remain very narrow as the negative (market) breadth problem continues.
