Freedom of the press gezegde

 Freedom of the press is a basic principle of international human rights, ... I urge the Liberian government to drop all charges and release the journalists immediately.

 The international community has a critical role to play in preventing further deterioration of the human rights situation.  The Cambodian government doesn't seem to understand the sad irony of threatening critics of the prime minister on International Human Rights Day, but the rest of the world does. Cambodia seems to be traveling down the path to becoming an elected dictatorship. It is time for Cambodia's friends in the international community to reengage politically and make it clear to the government that it has to meet its human rights commitments.

 The Task Force thanks the International Lesbian and Gay Association, the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission and Human Rights Watch for their efforts to promote pro-gay policies at the United Nations. If the U.S. does not recognize its human rights obligations under international law, what reason do other governments have to uphold human rights?

 The Chinese government seriously carries out the constitutional principle of respecting and protecting human rights. The Chinese government is dedicated to improving the economic, social and cultural rights of all the people.

 The EU-Iran human rights dialogue enables the European Union to work to improve the human rights situation in Iran. We would like to see much greater commitment from Iran to the dialogue and to ensuring that the dialogue results in real progress achieved on the ground. We are frankly disappointed that Iran has not yet agreed dates for the next round, and [we] will continue to press them. Iran's attitude to human rights is damaging its reputation in the international community.

 We are also seeing a pattern of intimidation on the part of the authorities that involves the arrest, usually for a period of up to several days, of human rights defenders and pro-democracy activists. We call on the Syrian authorities to release immediately those held for their involvement in human rights-promoting activities, for their peaceful beliefs and for the peaceful expression of their opinions.

 The security forces' response to the upcoming political demonstrations will provide the international community with a clear indication of the government's commitment to upholding human rights. The government must demonstrate its respect for freedom of expression and assembly, which are essential at this time of intense debate about the country's political future.

 A freedom of expression that destroys world peace is against basic human rights.
