 It had such a profound affect on me as a 9-year-old that it made me want to make films. The next day I got my parents' Super 8 movie camera and started to do stop-motion animation with a clay dinosaur.

 When computer animation came in, they thought it would be the death of 3-D stop-motion, but it has a particular life of its own. It's hand-crafted and has a spontaneity. It can feel more alive. The hand of the individual is right there. Sometimes, you even see the thumbprints in the clay.

 I always laugh when I hear that a form of animation is dying. They've been saying for years that stop-motion is dead. But a few of us are still around.

 I don't think this collection of films represent everything. We're not delivering a shared point of view. These movies are all so different from each other. We all look at a movie through a prism of everything our parents and teachers taught us and what our children are telling us. You can't make a movie expecting everyone will have the same reaction. Ten people seeing 'Munich' will come out with 10 different points of view. It was always that way, sitting around the Passover table talking about the Middle East.

 They take the 3D elements, and because they're already there, they adjust one of the cameras so it's slightly askew. Somehow, if a movie is already [CGI] animation, they can then make it a 3D movie relatively simply by doing something within the world they've created.

 When the Zippy movie first started being talked about very rarely would people actually say animation to me, because I would never consider it.

 Some do it without their parents, and they can really get caught up in the moment. Everywhere we went, we took a video camera and a still camera. When the educators are talking about the degree process, we have all that on tape. We're going over pictures and the tapes to make sure the right decision is there.

 It's films like 'Sideways' and 'Super Size Me' that make folks realize that low-budget films are attractive because you can spend less to reach profitability.

 What people like about stop-motion animation is that it's real. It's like a magic trick, taking real things, real sets, and making them come to life with movement.
