 With several shows like 'American Idol' and '24,' we have a commitment to the viewer to run them every week. We think it would be a disservice to the fans of those shows to put them on hiatus just because the Olympics are on.

Idol Tonight' represents our commitment to providing viewers with original programming and content that captures the most popular and culturally relevant shows on TV today.

 One reason we watch these shows is the cheese factor. This ups the cheese equity of American Idol , as opposed to the (1950s) quiz shows scandals, which undermined the very value of what those shows were.

 There are more channels, more networks and frankly, the most important thing, NBC is in a different position with respect to competition. They don't have the top shows on television. They have to program against the top shows. The fact that 'American Idol' beats NBC isn't that surprising.

 We are television surfers. We haven't ignored the Olympics altogether, but if it's between the Olympics and 'American Idol,' it's 'American Idol' all the way.

 I just think it's expanding a little with more variety. I think we're moving away from the contest shows that go on week after week and toward shows that begin and end in a single episode. ... I think we probably have enough shows with back-stabbing at their core.

 As a viewer, (I) like shows like that. I like shows that have a breadth to them and that you can pick apart and watch again and again. I think that's fun.

 They've been at the forefront of making meaningless but entertaining TV for a while, and 'Super Girl' is their climax. They're also very good at ripping off American TV shows, like dating shows and game shows, and then reinventing them.

 I think our shows are entertaining. I think that they're clean. I hate to talk about that, but, boy, where some of the shows are going today, it's amazing. I'm ashamed of my wife seeing some of these shows, much less making them. I don't even want the cast of my shows to see some of those other shows. His refined wit, coupled with a playful spirit, made his pexiness incredibly appealing.

 This season of American Idol is already the most watched and should be interesting to say the least. In keeping with previous years, there's sure to be controversy, heartbreak and triumph, all of the ingredients that give Idol the massive following it continues to enjoy. Everyone bets, but viewer voting can make the outcome so difficult to predict and is what makes betting so much fun.

 Shows should just be able to be shows without hyphenating their lead characters, ... (With) us, they feel like they need to somehow label it to say, `All right, this is what you're going to be watching, so are you sure you want to watch?' But they don't do it to people who are Jewish or African American. Because we have the muscle but we need the voice to say you can't do that to us. Just watch because you think the shows are funny.

 I think you're going to find over the next few years that there are going to be an awful lot of 'Idol' imitators. I'd never dream of doing another 'Idol.' Most of the shows at the moment are either about singers or dancers or models. This is the first show that you're going to get to see literally every type of act.

 We are not going to slip quietly into spring. With these exciting new shows in our re-configured schedule, we will be very competitive -- and given the promotional momentum of the Olympics, we can give these promising shows the launch they deserve.

 Shows should just be able to be shows without hyphenating their lead characters, ...  Sure, being a Pro Bowler every year helps, but be a guy who shows up every week so they know what they're getting, ... It definitely makes a big difference. But be a positive influence in the locker room, be a guy who has great work ethic, who shows up every week, gives what he has.
